Apart from charting the course from learning to fly a two seat Cessna, in San Jose California to being in command of the aircraft you see on the book cover, (yes, that’s us as we coast in over Greenland), “So, You Want To Be A Pilot?”, will look at how working within the cut throat world of the music business, actually prepared me more than almost any other experience, to act as a Commander on the “Big Jets.”
The other, quite unexpected discovery when I began my aviation career was just how similar writing and producing music is, to the mindset of actually flying an aircraft. It has been no surprise to come across so many pilots who have had similar backgrounds in music, most notably Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden…ok, ok, his band might be slightly bigger than those I have played in but, has he ever flown an airbus 330?
I was fortunate to be able to combine my two passions with the video footage, being the approach and landing, of a Boeing 767 into Punta Cana. The music accompanying the footage is by the artist Amelia Chain, where I was asked to produce and orchestrate. I hope you enjoy. If you do, head over to www.ameliachain.com and download the track for free,
The rest of the tracks, and video below, I warn you now, might not be to everyone’s taste, but if it was to everyone’s taste, we would sound like Coldplay, and who would want that?! (Sorry Ken :), you know I don’t mean it). Also, I apologise in advance if any viewers are disturbed by the appearances of “mullets” in a couple of the videos. Remember, business at the front, party at the back! For the avoidance of doubt, the culprits were severely dealt with and the offending hair cut, humanely dealt with!
